Lisa S. Gussak MD, is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health (FMCH) at UMass Memorial Health and the UMass Chan School of Medicine. Dr. Gussak is a member of the International Coaching Federation as an Associate Certified Coach. Since 2018, Dr. Gussak has been the Director of the Center for Clinical Communication and Professionalism (CCCP), an internal coaching program for providers (attending physicians and fellows) who are struggling with communication and professionalism, including various forms of disruptive behavior. Established in 2006, the CCCP is funded by our self-insurance program, and engages providers in 1:1 confidential coaching in collaboration with departmental sponsorship. In addition, Dr. Gussak partners with legal, HR, risk management, hospital leadership and department chairs in ongoing conversations and professional development sessions to create and share best practices in managing this vexing and costly problem. Along with colleagues and members of the research division within FMCH, Dr. Gussak is completing a retrospective evaluation of the CCCP results and impact over the past 17 years. Lisa is an avid photographer, who has shown her work locally and in medical humanities journals. She also enjoys cooking, hiking and travel.
