Stephen A. Dickens is an attorney and the Vice President of Medical Practice Services at SVMIC. With over three decades of experience, he is a trusted advisor to physicians and their staff on a wide range of organizational issues, including governance, operations, strategic planning, leadership, patient experience, and human resources.
Stephen's expertise is widely recognized, making him a sought-after speaker and author on these topics at both state and national conferences. His career spans 15 years in executive roles within medical practice, hospital, and home care settings before joining SVMIC in 2008.
He has held several prestigious positions, including Past Chair of the national Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) and Past President of the MGMA Financial Management Society, Tennessee MGMA, and the Tennessee Association for Home Care. In 2024, Stephen was honored with the national MGMA Lifetime Distinguished Achievement Award, a testament to his significant contributions to the field.
Stephen is a Board-Certified Medical Practice Executive and a Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives. He holds life memberships in MGMA with distinguished leader designation as well as Tennessee MGMA. His academic credentials include a Juris Doctorate, a master's degree in educational psychology, and a bachelor's degree in business administration.
Throughout his career, Stephen has received numerous accolades, including the Martha Johnson Distinguished Service Award from the Tennessee Medical Group Management Association and the Tennessee Home Care Administrator of the Year award. His dedication to the industry is further exemplified by the TMGMA Bridge to the Future Award, named in his honor, recognizing emerging leaders in the field.
Stephen's commitment to service extends beyond his professional life, as evidenced by his numerous awards for volunteer service to the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity.
