Medically integrated dispensing is a rapidly growing form of specialty pharmacy showing tremendous benefit for patients, providers and practices. The importance of specialty pharmacy care is clear 0— in 2023 alone, 80% of the drugs approved by the FDA were specialty medications, known for requiring special handling and patient support. Unfortunately, the current specialty pharmacy system is lacking — medication delays, toxic out-of-pocket costs and poor medication adherence demonstrate how patients are suffering as a result. The current system’s inadequacy and the growing pipeline of specialty therapies have led practices to take matters into their own hands by providing these medications through their own in-house dispensaries or pharmacies. Particularly prevalent in oncology, other specialties and multispecialty groups are beginning to adopt this care model. This presentation will detail the medically integrated dispensing care model, arming practices with the information necessary to assess whether their practice is a good fit for dispensing and discuss the guiding metrics to evaluate the health of dispensing operations. Furthermore, this presentation will be grounded in learnings and best practices from dozens of practices.
